Outlander 2009

709AD, a space craft streaks across the night’s sky and crash lands in a Norwegian fjord. From its wreckage emerge, Kainan or Outlander (Jim Caviezel) a soldier from a far away planet and a deadly alien stowaway, the Moorwen. Before he has a chance to track down the Moorwen, Kainan is captured by viking warrior, Wulfric (Jack Huston) and held prisoner in the local village led by King Rothgar (John Hurt).

Grudgingly accepted into the clan after saving Rothgar’s life, Kainan confides in Rothgar’s fiercely beautiful daughter, Freya (Sophia Myles), about his past.

As the Moorwen wreaks terror and destruction on neighbouring villages, the threat of conflict between the clans escalates and Kainan is called upon to kill the creature. Aware of their prey’s strength, Kainan and Wulfric fuse his advanced alien technology with the Viking’s Iron Age weaponry. Joining forces with the bloodthirsty Gunnar (Ron Perlman), they lead one last mission to seek out and slay the Moorwen.

In the face of the Viking’s destruction, the tale of Kainan becomes legend.

OUTLANDER is directed by Howard McCain and co-written with Dirk Blackman, both of whom are currently scripting Brett Ratner’s CONAN. The film was produced by Chris Roberts (LORD OF WAR, LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN) and Barrie M. Osborne (LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, THE MATRIX).

Saving Private Ryan-World War II

Many mothers lost their children during World War II, but General George C. Marshall (Harve Presnell) takes pity on a Mrs. Ryan, who will soon learn that three of her sons died fighting for the cause. Realising that Mrs. Ryan has another son in the war who is presumed to still be alive, Marshall orders a team of soldiers lead by Captain John Miller (Tom Hanks), who has just survived a horrific D-Day experience, to find the surviving Private Ryan so that he can at least be returned to his mother. Miller and his unit disagree with the logic of risking many soldiers lives for a single soldier, but follow orders and embark on a quest to find Ryan. More..

During the Vietnam War, a South Korean army base begins receiving mysterious radio transmissions from a patrol that went missing six months earlier. A shell-shocked commanding officer (Gam Woo-Sung) and a ragtag military unit are sent into the desolate stretch of land known as R-Point to gather clues as to the whereabouts of the missing soldiers. PLATOON -Vietnam War

The Vietnam War wasn't about two sides facing each other on a battle-zone; it was a war situated in complete disorientation, with a soldier having to watch his back from three hundred and sixty degrees of danger as the location of each opposing force was always in question. Oliver Stone's Platoon is a frenetic explosion of a war movie. Not only does it turn you off war for good; it grabs the viewer by the throat and deposits them headfirst into the hellhole. The Vietnam War has often been the most contentious point in later twentieth century American history, and Platoon refuses to enter into the discussion other than to show the War from it's protagonist narrator. Released in 1986, amongst a second wave of Vietnam films (that followed the first wave of The Deer Hunter, Apocalypse Now and Coming Home), Platoon received four Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Film Editing and Best Sound, and helped put Oliver Stone on the A-list of directors after the impressive Salvador.
